Bhaikaka University Convocation 2024: A Celebration of Academic Excellence

Bhaikaka University's second convocation ceremony was held on November 30, 2024. The event was graced by the presence of eminent personalities, including Shri Ravi Kannan.R , the chief guest. Dr. Kannan, a renowned figure in the medical field, delivered the convocation address. He holds esteemed qualifications, such as MBBS from Kilpauk Medical College, Chennai, MS from Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi, and MCh in Surgical Oncology from the Cancer Institute (WIA), Chennai.

 

Recognized for his exceptional contributions to medicine, Dr. Kannan was honored with the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2020. He has also received accolades such as the Award for Distinguished Community Service from the Sundaram Medical Foundation and Dr. Rangarajan Memorial Hospital, Chennai, in 2019, and the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award in 2023.

 

The convocation ceremony was further adorned by the presence of distinguished dignitaries including Shri Atul Patel, President of Bhaikaka University; Dr. Abhay Dharamsi, Provost; Dr. Jyoti Tiwari, Registrar; Dr. Himanshu Pandya, Dean of Pramukhswami Medical College; Shri Amit Patel, Secretary of Charotar Arogya Mandal; Dr. Jitesh Desai, Superintendent of Shree Krishna Hospital, Karamsad; Dr. R. Harihara Prakash, Principal of K. M. Patel Institute of Physiotherapy College; Dr. Sonal Chitroda, In-charge Principal of Smt. L. P. Patel Institute of Medical Laboratory Technology and CAM Institute of Allied Health Sciences & Technology; Prof. Shailesh Panchal, In-charge Principal of the Institute of Nursing Sciences and Shri G.H. Patel School of Nursing, along with esteemed faculty members, staff, and students.

 

Dr. Abhay Dharamsi extended his congratulations to the graduating students and urged them to make significant contributions to society. Bhaikaka University offers a wide array of academic programs, encompassing undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in fields such as medicine, physiotherapy, nursing, medical laboratory technology, and allied health sciences. Additionally, the university provides PhD programs, fellowships, and specialized certificate courses. The university also runs a Master's in Public Health program and offers short courses through the Amrita Patel Centre for Public Health. Currently, the university boasts an enrollment of 1,700 students across 84 courses. Research is a cornerstone of the university, with a track record of 65 published research papers, 32 signed MOUs, and 288 approved research projects.

 

In his address to the graduates, Dr. Kannan emphasized that life is a continuous journey, and we all play a part in it. Our individual roles are shaped by our familial and societal backgrounds, with our ancestors overcoming the challenges of their time, and future generations destined to confront both national and global issues. In the realm of healthcare, compassion is paramount when caring for patients. It is imperative to contribute positively to society. Every community faces unique challenges, and as healthcare professionals, we must approach these issues with empathy and dedication.

 

Shri Atul Patel extended his congratulations to all the graduating students and expressed deep admiration for the visionary founder chairman of Charutar Arogya Mandal, the late Dr. H. M. Patel. Dr. Patel's dream was to provide comprehensive and compassionate healthcare to everyone in need. Shri Patel emphasized the institute's commitment to offering compassionate care to every patient. He also expressed sincere gratitude to the donors whose generous contributions have made it possible to modernize hospital facilities and educational institutions.

 

A total of 131 students were honored with certificates in various fields, including PhD, MD /MS, MPH, Master of Physiotherapy, M.Sc. Nursing, B.Sc. Medical Laboratory Technology, M.Sc. Medical Laboratory Technology, Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology, and PG DCD.

 

Three students were awarded gold medals:

  • Ms. Bindra Miteshkumar Rami from CAM Institute of Allied Health Sciences & Technology, for her B.Sc. in Medical Laboratory Technology
  • Dr. Sakina Aarif Chalavala from K. M. Patel Institute of Physiotherapy College, for her Master of Physiotherapy
  • Ms. Hetavi Vikrambhai Desai from K. M. Patel Institute of Physiotherapy College, for her Bachelor of Physiotherapy
 

Dr. Ashok Nair, the Controller of Examinations of Bhaikaka University expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all the dignitaries and attendees present at the event. He thanked everyone for their valuable time, participation, and contributions, acknowledging the efforts that made the event a success.
