Bhaikaka University, Karamsad organised International Spine and Spinal injuries conference

K. M. Patel Institute of Physiotherapy was pleased to host ISSICON again (International Spine and Spinal Injuries CONference) after the great success of ISSICON, organized in the year 2014. This year it was held at the prestigious National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) campus from 1st to 3rd December 2023. Nearly 250 delegates registered from all over country and world.

 

The Inaugural ceremony was graced by the torch-bearers of Bhaikaka University and the esteemed guests - Chief Guest Dr. Piyush Mittal (Director, Government Spine Institute, Ahemdabad), Shri Atulbhai Patel (President, Bhaikaka University), Dr. HS Chhabra (Organizing Chairman, ISSICON), Dr. AK Mukherjee (Past President of Spinal Cord Society), Mr. Stephen Muldoon (Chairperson, Education Committee International Spinal Cord Society), Dr. Meenesh Shah (Chairman & Managing Director, National Dairy Development Board), Shri Jagrutbhai Bhatt (Hon. Secretary, Charutar Arogya Mandal), Dr. Utpala Kharod (Provost, Bhaikaka University), Dr. Himanshu Pandya (Dean, Pramukhswami Medical College) and Dr. R Harihara Prakash (Organising Secretary, ISSICON)

 

The chief guest of the event was Dr. Piyush Mittal. His presence added immense prestige to the event and his contributions in the field of spinal surgery has left a lasting impact on the attendees.

 

Highlights from the conference included insightful keynote addresses by eminent speakers of spinal surgery, Dr. HS Chhabra and his team, Mr. Stephen Muldoon, Dr. James Middleton, Dr. Saheel Maajid, Ms. Fiona Bar, Dr. Michael Fehlings and Dr. Lisa Harvey who came from across the globe and shared their innovative research and perspectives on the future of spinal cord treatments. Attendees actively engaged in workshops, presented innovative posters, and participated in thought provoking discussions on emerging trends in the field.

 

ISSICON was proudly amalgamated with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities celebrated on 3rd December, aligning its mission with the global commitment to inclusivity and accessibility.

 

This unique collaboration aimed to bridge the gap between extravagant spinal cord research and the lived-in experiences of individuals with disabilities. The conference featured sessions dedicated to understanding the challenges faced by persons with spinal cord injuries and exploring innovative solutions to enhance their quality of life.

 

The consumer session included Persons with Spinal Cord Injury who had the opportunity to engage with inspiring speakers / individuals who shared their personal journeys and perspectives on navigating life with a spinal cord injury. The event emphasized the importance of fostering an inclusive environment in both research and healthcare practices.

 

A special session was conducted by Mr. Imran Qureshi on wheelchair training for persons with Spinal cord injury. He articulately conveyed the essence of enhancing mobility, building strength, and mastering essential skills to empower and improve the quality of life for individuals using wheelchairs.

 

The event showcased cutting-edge research, emerging technologies, and collaborative initiatives that hold the potential to transform spinal cord treatments. Attendees left with a renewed sense of purpose and a commitment to translating knowledge into tangible improvements in patient care.

 

The conference concluded successfully, marking a significant milestone in the pursuit of advancements in spinal cord research and treatment.
