The Departments of Psychiatry, Health Humanities & Social Sciences, and Physiology of Bhaikaka University, Karamsad jointly celebrated World Suicide Prevention Day on 9th September 2021. The theme for this year was 'Creating Hope through Action', which is a reminder that there is an alternative to suicide, and we can be a key player in its prevention. Through action, you can make a difference to someone in their darkest moments.
An educational event titled 'Save Charlie' was organized at the Academic Auditorium. The students participated in a treasure hunt game to track Charlie and interact and listen to him for further help he has suicidal tendencies.
On this occasion Dr. Jagdish Varma, Psychiatric, Shree Krishna Hospital briefed the students about how to communicate with a suicidal person while Dr. Anusha Prabhakaran, Psychiatric, SKH delivered a talk on cultivating positive mental health.
The students of Pramukhswami Medical College, working for mental health awareness, and the Community Services Committee presented a skit on mental health awareness.
The educational events were attended by nearly 100 medical students, with the participation of 20 teams. First, second and third prizes were awarded to the teams based on their ability to demonstrate empathy, listening, and communication with Charlie.
The event was successful with the guidance of Provost- BU Dr. Utpala Kharod, Dr. Himanshu Pandya, Dean PSMC, and Dr. Bhalendu Vaishnav, Assistant Dean Medical Services and Head -Medicine Dept. Dr. Jai Contractor and Dr. Ankur Mahida were instrumental in planning and executing the whole event.
