BU Hosts First GujPediCritiCon-2025

Bhaikaka University, Karamsad, hosted the first Gujarat Pediatric Critical Care Conference - 2025 at Bhikhabhai auditorium, a significant event organized through the collaborative efforts of the Gujarat Pediatric Intensive Care Chapter and Bhaikaka University's Pediatric Department.

This pioneering conference benefited from the esteemed patronage of Dr. Abhay Dharmasi, Provost of Bhaikaka University, alongside Dr. Nirmal Chorariya, and Dr. Himanshu Pandya, Dean of Pramukh Swami Medical College. The conference's direction was expertly guided by chairperson Dr. Krutika Tandon, Head of the Pediatric Department at Bhaikaka University, and Dr. Himanshu Tadavi.

The meticulous conference was spearheaded by Dr. Amit Kumar, a dedicated Pediatric Intensivist, with crucial support from pediatric department residents and faculty members. Further reinforcing the conference's success was the invaluable involvement of the Gujarat Pediatric Intensive Care Chapter, with significant contributions from prominent figures like Dr. Jitesh Raval from Ahmedabad, Dr. Pratik Shah from Surat, and Dr. Kunal Shah from Vapi.

The conference achieved remarkable participation, drawing over 170 delegates and faculty members from across Gujarat and neighboring regions of Maharashtra.
A central highlight of the event was the comprehensive program featuring presentations by four national and 40 state faculty members, focusing on the critical challenges and innovative solutions within pediatric critical care.

Key thematic discussions encompassed crucial topics such as surviving sepsis and transforming pediatric outcomes, decoding debates on fluid matrices in PICU fluids, and insights into ARDS—navigating challenges and solutions. Additionally, insightful panel discussions addressed vital subjects like the art and science of inotropes—critical considerations in patient care, conquering superbugs—strategies for antimicrobial stewardship and survival, and the complexities of managing dengue in the PICU.

Complementing the informative presentations, the conference featured two highly practical workshops. One workshop, focusing on invasive and non-invasive ventilation, was conducted in the critical care unit of Shree Krishna Hospital, providing hands-on experience in essential ventilation techniques. The second workshop, centered on hemodynamic monitoring in the PICU, took place at Bhaikaka University’s Advanced Simulation Centre and Clinical Skills Lab, where participants engaged in practical training with mannequins.

Further promoting academic exchange, 29 poster and paper presentations were delivered by pediatric students from various medical colleges. Recognizing excellence, awards were presented for the best paper and poster in three distinct categories.
