Central Diagnostic Laboratory of SKH, the teaching hospital of BU receives National Award for Lab Excellence from the Quality Council of India

Central Diagnostic Laboratory of NABH Accredited Shree Krishna Hospital, Karamsad the teaching hospital of Bhaikaka University has received the prestigious Prof. S K Joshi Award for Laboratory Excellence in the Medical Laboratories category from the Quality Council of India (QCI). The laboratory received the silver award in the category where numerous corporate, private, and public laboratories had applied from all over India.
 
The award ceremony was held in New Delhi on 6th October 2022 Thursday, which coincided with the Silver Jubilee celebration of QCI. Dr Monica Gupta, Associate Dean of Clinical Excellence and Accreditation, and Dr Mustafa Ranapurwala, Assistant Dean of Diagnostic Services of the hospital received the award from the hands of Shri Aadil Zainulbhai, Chairman at QCI and Capacity Building Commission of India and Shri Vipin Sondhi MD & CEO Ashok Leyland.
 
Dr Ranapurwala said that this award is a reflection of Shree Krishna Hospital`s commitment to facilitating safe, competent, and ethical practice. There were three rounds of screening which included a presentation and an on-site visit by a member of the jury. The award also included a cash prize of Rs.75,000.
 
He lauded the exemplary work ethics exhibited by each team member in the laboratory which includes doctors, technicians, and residents who work towards maintaining quality standards.
Prof S K Joshi was one of this country's eminent science leaders and condensed matter physicists. He had held various positions from Professor of Physics at IIT, Roorkee, Director of the National Physics Laboratory, Director General, at CSIR, and Chairman of the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL). The S K Joshi awards have been started to commemorate his exemplary work in enhancing industry-academia interactions and ensuring the quality is on par with international standards.
 
Speaking on the occasion Dr Monica Gupta said that the lab of the hospital continues its journey of excellence since 2008. For Shree Krishna Hospital, which serves as a teaching hospital for Bhaikaka University its foray into ‘quality’ began with the accreditation of Central Diagnostic Laboratories in 2008, making it the first medical college in the country to have all its laboratories accredited.
 
She added that this was followed by the NABH accreditation of the AD Gorwala Blood Centre in 2011 and the Radio-diagnosis Centre in 2014. While the Blood Centre is third in Gujarat, the Radio-diagnosis Centre was the first institutional centre and the first medical college in the country to be accredited. The final feather in its cap is the accreditation by NABH for all its healthcare services, making it the first medical college in Gujarat as also the West Zone to have made this achievement.
