International Prosthetics and Orthotics Day

Today is International Prosthetics and Orthotics Day. It is to highlight the importance and impact for those needing prostheses and orthoses and the need to provide further resources to ensure equitable and appropriate access to prosthetics and orthotics services.
 
K M Patel institute of Physiotherapy, the constituent institute of Bhaikaka University has a Prosthetic and Orthotics Assistive Technology Branch for addressing the combined functional and psycho-social deficits experienced by individuals who are amputees. The division makes silicon-made functional restorative organs with the consideration of cosmetic appearance and color of the skin.
 
Recently Orthotist and Prosthetist Dr. Mayur Chudasama provided Orthotic therapy treatment through cranial orthosis to an eight-month-old who could not able to lift his neck due to musculature weakness. According to Dr. Mayur, the Infant is suffering from cranial deformities due to the uneven shape of the head and difficulty in lifting the head. This may lead to ear infections, facial asymmetry, temporomandibular joint disorder, weak musculature, poor vision, and lead to brain deformity occurs. This treatment is provided to a 4 -18-month-old child who has this type of cranial deformity.
