SKH teaching hospital of BU operated a complicated case of acute gangrenous perforated cholecystitis via minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery
Dr. Jignesh Rathod and team of doctors of Department of General Surgery, Shree Krishna Hospital, Karamsad successfully operated a complicated case of acute gangrenous perforated cholecystitis via minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery.
An 85-year-old female had developed complaints of abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting and was in visible distress. She was admitted to a private hospital in Ahmedabad for nearly 10 days and was managed conservatively, but there was no relief in her condition. The family consulted with a few other specialists, underwent a series of blood tests and radiological investigations but did not receive definitive treatment.
She was referred to the General Surgery Department at Shree Krishna Hospital, Karamsad. She had a strong medical and surgical history, along-with multiple biochemical abnormalities.
She was immediately admitted to the General Surgery Department, and also examined by other specialists of the hospital from Departments of Nephrology, Medicine and Respiratory Medicine for complete pre-operative optimization.
Dr. Rathod said that the plan was to conduct Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy and convert to an open surgery if required. Intraoperatively, the gall bladder was found to be perforated, with widespread pus flakes and intestinal loops adherent to the gall bladder and liver. The pus was drained out and careful dissection was done to excise the gall bladder. The surgery was successfully accomplished laparoscopically with no requirement of an abdominal incision.
The patient recovered uneventfully following the surgery and was discharged after one week.
It is a demonstration of exemplary surgical skills and dexterity that eventually relieved the patient of her ailment.
The family expressed their gratitude towards the team as well as the hospital for their fruitful stay and treatment at Shree Krishna Hospital.
