Traditional Recipes from Millets Competition organized at Bhaikaka University
Furthering the UN’s recognition of 2023 as the International Year of Millets (IMY), Bhaikaka University, Karamsad initiated different activities to promote Indian millets for health benefits.
The NSS Unit and Nutrition Department of the university organized a recipe and poster competition on 24th January 2023. Nearly 55 students, doctors, and staff participated in the recipe competition and displayed authentic Indian cuisine prepared from millet.
They presented delicious recipes prepared from millets like Barnyard Millet Upma, Millet Methi Paratha, Proso Millet Pizza, Millet Dosa, and Millet Sandwich. Millets Momos, Ragi Wrap, Khato Rotlo, Vaghareli Khichdi, Ghughri, Millet Roll, Thalipeeth, Millet Dumpling, etc.
The participants also served mouth-watering sweet dishes prepared from millets, viz Kodo Millets Kheer, Ragi Kheer, Barward Millets Halva, Ragi Laddoo, Ragi Pudding, Cup Cake, etc.
During the inspection of the recipes prepared from millets, the jury members of the competition, the chief guest Dr. Bhanvna Chauhan (Principal, SM Patel College of Home Science, CVM University, VV Nagar), Ms. Jigna Patel (Dietitian, Bhaikaka University), Dr. Manisha Gohel, (Professor, Community Medicine Department) tasted and appreciated the delicacies served by the participants and announced winners.
The five winners of the recipe competition were Dr. Sunita, Ms. Dhruva Patel, Bhavnaben, Dr. Sonal Chhatriwala, Moksha Patel, and Dr. Jyoti Mannari.
