Treatments for pituitary neuroendocrine tumors (PitNETs)
Dr. Girish Mishra, Dr. Sachin Patel, and a skilled team of doctors from the ENT & Head and Neck Surgery Department of Shree Krishna Hospital, the teaching hospital of Bhaikaka University, Karamsad performed a highly complex surgery to remove a pituitary Neuroendocrine tumor (PitNET).
A 28-year-old patient presented with a headache, progressive loss of vision, and occasional nosebleeds. On examination, a tumor was found in the patient's brain which had spread down to the nose and was compressing the optic nerve. The challenging location of the tumor near the main vessels of the brain and on the optic nerve and the possibility of severe bleeding could complicate such surgery.
Dr. Mishra and Dr. Sachin's surgical skills and the collective expertise of the team made the patient's surgery successful. After the operation, the patient was pain-free and the patient regained his vision immediately. This procedure, endoscopic hypophysectomy (removal of a brain tumor through the nose with the help of a telescope), does not involve any stitches or scars on the patient's body.
This successful operation reveals the hospital's commitment to advanced medical facilities and care for such challenging surgeries and highlights the crucial role played by skilled surgeons in such delicate procedures. Dr. Alpa Patel and Dr. Sanket Mehta's anesthesia team worked hard to make the operation a success.
