A three-day workshop focusing on the integration of gender in medical education was recently conducted at Bhaikaka University. Organized from 13th to 15th June 2024, the workshop aimed to address the impact of the healthcare system on individuals of different genders, identities, and sexual orientations, topics often overlooked and surrounded by misconceptions.
Bhaikaka University collaborated with the Centre for Enquiry into Health and Allied Themes (CEHAT) and the Indian Association of Preventive & Social Medicine, Gujarat Chapter (IAPSM-GC) to bring together healthcare personnel and educators. Faculty members from Pramukh Swami Medical College actively participated in the event.
Dr. Praveen Singh, Convener,NMC Nodal Centre for Faculty Development, Pramukh Swami Medical College, highlighted the workshop's goals of fostering sensitivity to societal and health inequities, promoting inclusivity, and integrating these principles into medical education. The workshop utilized innovative methods like PowerPoint presentations, dialogues, activities, and advocacy to raise awareness among participants.
The workshop was conducted by the CEHAT team, led by Sangeeta Rege, Director of CEHAT. Dr. Manisha Gohel, the workshop organizer, emphasized its pivotal role in advancing medical education and addressing contemporary healthcare challenges.
